Canon Vehicle Tracking AF coming to EOS R5 and R6
Canon Japan has announced new firmware updates for its Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 camera systems to be released on December 2, 2021. The new firmware update will be bringing new autofocus features and improved autofocus performance to each of these cameras.
Firmware version 1.5.0 will bring ‘Vehicle Priority’ AF mode which we have seen first with Canon EOS R3 (and also seen on Nikon Z9 ) - Check Canon R3 vs Nikon Z9 size and specs comparison here
In addition, the new firmware for Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 is bringing improved performance for tracking people wearing helmets and goggles during winter sports.
The improvements doon't end here. The new firmware V1.5.0 for the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 will also bring torso detection to the human tracking features, allowing the cameras to switch from one body part to another to try to keep a lock on subjects when the face is obscured. Eye AF has also been improved to help detect eyes when they’re being obscured by hair or shadows.
