I was examining Canon's RF mount and Nikon's Z-Mount lens lineups recently and noticed that neither manufacturer has released an F1.4 lens for their mirrorless cameras yet! Isn't that odd? It almost makes you wonder if there's an unspoken agreement between these two companies to stop producing F1.4 lenses. They seem to focus on offering either the slower, more compact, and affordable F1.8 lenses or the large, expensive F1.2 primes, but there's no F1.4 option in between.
For instance, consider Canon's RF 50mm F1.2L USM and F1.8 lenses. The F1.2 has an MSRP of $2,199 whereas the F1.8 sells for $199 (read my review here)! And the size difference is obvious. Wouldn't it be nice to have a 50mm F1.4 option between, both in size and price?

Same for the Nikon, look at the Nikon Z 85mm F1.2 S vs F1.8 S lenses for example. The 85mm F1.2 has a price tag of a whopping $2,799 and the F1.8 is $799! And no need to mention that it is almost 700g heavier than the F1.8!

On the other hand, Sony is taking a different and more traditional approach with their FE mounts, take these excellent series of F1.4 GM lenses for example, I know that they sell really well.

Conclusion
I really wonder if Canon and Nikon will ever offer F1.4 prime lenses for their RF and Z mounts respectively, but I hope they do since I am pretty sure there is a market and potential buyers for high quality and relatively affordable F1.4 primes.
