Sigma announced the Sigma 28-105mm f2.8 DG DN Art (pre-order at $1,499)lens for Sony E and Leica L mounts today. The closest competitor to the new lens from the focal range and aperture perspective is the Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z (buy at $2,999) so I prepared a quick real-life scaled size comparison of these two lenses, followed by a specs and feature comparison.

However, the equation changes a little when the Sigma is extended (Canon is an internal zoom design):

The Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art, measuring 158mm in length, is 41mm shorter and 335g lighter than the Canon 24-105mm f/2.8. While you do lose 4mm on the wide end (28mm vs. 24mm), which could be a drawback for some, I believe this trade-off is justified given how much more portable the Sigma lens is in comparison, especially for my needs.
In addition to the size advantage, the price difference is significant! The Sigma costs half as much as the Canon ($1,499 vs $2,999), making it a much more wallet-friendly option.
