Canon just dropped a teaser on Instagram for what looks a lot like the rumored C50 full frame RF-mount cinema camera, with a YouTube Premiere set for September 9, 2025 at 3 pm CEST.

The image shows a video-first body with a boxy profile, mounting points on the top plate, a red record button, and a front tally light. From the design, it is reasonable to read this as a cinema-oriented box camera that could go head to head with Sony’s FX3 family, where Sony has been very comfortable with the FX3, FX30, and FX2.

Canon already has the EOS R5 C as a video-first RF mount option, but the shape in this teaser is a different beast. Canon also recently launched the APS-C EOS R50 V, a model aimed at vloggers rather than pro cinema work. If this teaser really is the C50, it looks like Canon is targeting the compact pro cinema crowd. The C50 will likely use the stacked 45MP sensor that is also used in the EOS R5 Mark II which would make 8K video possible, and if that's the case, it will presumably come with an active cooling system like all other 'serious' cinema cameras.
