Update December 19th, 2024: Sigma Recalls 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II ART Lens due to Focus Accuracy Issue
Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II Art for E and L Mounts
The recently announced Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II Art, available in Sony E and Leica L mounts, looks very attractive on paper. The Mark I version was already very good (However, there were early reports of so much dust getting under the front lens element even after a short time of use outside), so there's no reason to expect less from the Mark II. Here are the changes and improvements Sigma made in the Mark II version:
- New aperture ring, an Aperture de-click switch, and an Aperture lock switch
- Slightly smaller and 10% lighter (745g vs 835g)
- 2 programmable AFL buttons vs 1 button
- Shorter min focusing distance (0.17m vs 0.18m) and higher max magnification (0.37x vs 0.34x)
- High-Response linear AF motor vs Stepper Motor: Potentially faster and more accurate AF
- Improved optical performance
Price
Sigma managed to add numerous features to the new lens while only increasing the MSRP by $100 ($1,199 vs. $1,099), which is impressive. Additionally, in terms of specifications, it can easily compete with the significantly more expensive Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II ($2,298). You can find the comparison of Sigma vs Sony here.
