If you shoot Sony and you're looking for a standard zoom at f/2.8, there are more options than ever right now. They all cover a similar focal range and share the same maximum aperture, but they differ quite a bit when it comes to size, weight, and price. Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 II vs Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II vs Samyang 24-60mm f2.8 FE vs Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G
This front view makes the size differences easy to see. The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 II is the largest of the group at 88 x 122mm and the heaviest at 735g, with an 82mm filter thread. Right next to it, the Sony GM II is almost the same width at 88 x 120mm but a touch lighter at 695g, also taking 82mm filters. The Samyang 24-60mm steps things down noticeably at 77 x 107mm and 600g, with a 72mm filter thread. The Sony 24-50mm G is the clear winner for portability, coming in at just 75 x 92mm and 440g, with a 67mm filter thread. That's nearly 300g lighter than the Sigma, which is a meaningful difference if you're carrying your kit all day.
