Sony RX1R III Receives Higher-Then-Expected Pre-Orders

Sony Japan has released an official statement saying that pre-orders for its new $5,099 camera, the RX1R III, have exceeded expectations. While it's unclear what Sony's original expectations were, making it hard to gauge the actual level of demand, statements like these are often used by manufacturers to build hype around a new release. It could be a sincere acknowledgment of unexpected interest or simply a marketing move. In this case, we’re inclined to give Sony the benefit of the doubt.
