Fujifilm’s upcoming release, the X-M5, is set to be a compact X-mount mirrorless camera, following in the footsteps of the X-M1 launched in 2013. The official announcement is scheduled for October 14th, alongside the XF 16-55mm F2.8 II debut and XF 500mm F5.6 lenses. Rumors have been circulating since September, and a leaked video has confirmed the camera’s existence. However, detailed specifications have yet to be revealed.

Who is the X-M5 for?
The X-M5 will be Fujifilm’s new entry-level X-mount camera, expected to come in at a lower price point than the X-T50 (MSRP $1,399) and X-S20 (MSRP $1,299), potentially under $1,000, making it appealing to budget-conscious buyers. It will also be smaller and lighter than both models, making it an ideal Fujifilm mirrorless option for on-the-go photography. Additionally, it offers a more affordable alternative to the highly popular X100VI, which is often out of stock.
The main trade-offs of the X-M5 will be the absence of a viewfinder and in-body image stabilization (IBIS), but for its target market, these limitations may not be dealbreakers. And it won't have the 40MP of the X-T5- but as long as Fujifilm keeps the price under $1000, these will not be so important for many either.
