Canon just unveiled the Canon RF 28-70mm F2.8 IS STM , its new 'compact' fast standard zoom for its RF mount cameras . Canon already had the monster Canon RF 28-70mm F2L USM lens in this focal range, but it is big, heavy, and expensive ($2,999 ), so it is overkill for most users. Likewise, the more popular Canon RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM covers a similar focal range but is also large and expensive ($2,399 )! Speaking of cost, the new lens has an MSRP of $1,099 (preorder here ) with an estimated shipment date of September 26th, and being a non-L lens, it doesn't come with a lens hood (shame on you, Canon!).
