Canon RF 1.4x and 2.0x Teleconverters
Canon offers two teleconverters for its RF mount lenses: The Canon Extender RF 1.4x and the Canon Extender RF 2. These extenders are highly popular, particularly among wildlife and sports photographers who shoot with Canon RF cameras, as they offer an easy and cost-effective method to extend the focal length of existing lenses. In addition to providing longer reach, extenders enhance the maximum magnification ratio of the attached lenses, thereby improving the quality of close-up shots.

The RF 1.4x and 2.0x Canon teleconverters are only compatible with 10 RF mount lenses. It's important to note that attempting to attach these teleconverters to an incompatible lens could damage both the converter and the lens.

CANON RF LENSES with TELECONVERTER COMPATIBILITY
In my opinion, the extender coverage for the RF mount is quite good. However, my only concern is with the RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM lens. Traditionally, these F2.8 70-200mm lenses are designed to be compatible with teleconverters, but unfortunately, the RF version is not. The RF 70-200mm F2.8 features an extending zoom design and is impressively compact, which I believe led Canon to sacrifice compatibility to maintain the lens’s small size.

*There is also an important exception with the Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM lens that you need to be aware of: The extenders can only be used within the 300-500mm range. Therefore, when using the 1.4x extender, the lens effectively becomes 420-700mm instead of 140-700mm, and with the 2.0x extender, it becomes 600-1000mm instead of 200-1000mm.

The Canon RF 1.4x and 2.0x extenders are priced at $499 and $599, respectively. While these products are not particularly inexpensive—in fact, they are more expensive than some standalone RF mount lenses—their optical quality is nearly excellent. As a result, the degradation in image quality and the impact on autofocus performance are minimal.
