The newly released Canon PowerShot V1 is the first and only fixed-lens camera to feature an active cooling system. According to Canon, its built-in fan efficiently cools the internals, allowing it to record up to 2 hours of 4K 60p video—an impressive runtime, even compared to many larger and more expensive video-focused mirrorless cameras.

Until now, active cooling systems were mostly reserved for high-end cinema cameras and some advanced hybrid mirrorless models. Seeing this technology in a compact fixed-lens camera is genuinely exciting. This feature alone elevates the V1 beyond just a vlogging camera—it could easily serve as a secondary or even primary camera for long event recordings.

While full details are still limited, Canon has confirmed that the V1 can record 10-bit Canon Log3 video at 4K 60p (with a 1.4x crop), 4K 30p using 5.7K readout, all hinting at its serious video capabilities. Plus, its new Type 1.4 sensor—nearly Four Thirds-sized—is expected to deliver image quality comparable to the Canon EOS R7, making it a highly promising release.

So far, Canon has only confirmed availability of the PowerShot V1 only in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan, with no mention of a global launch. We hope that they launch this tiny but talented camera worldwide soon, and we can have a chance to review it in detail.
