The New Canon EOS R5 C Video Oriented Mirrorless Camera
The Canon EOS R5 C, a more video oriented version of the popular Canon EOS R5 is officially announced. You will see tons of detailed reviews including ours soon but for starters, here is a pill-sized summary of the new Canon EOS R5 C:
What is good in Canon R5 C?
- Active Cooling ensures no overheating (also changes the menus)
- Unlimited Recording (no 30min limit)
- Dedicated Stills/Video Switch
- All the excellent stills shooting capabilities of the EOS R5 (except IBIS)
- Multi-Function Shoe as in Canon EOS R3 enables the use of new accessories such as an optional TASCAM CA-XLR2d-C XLR microphone adapter
- 12-bit Cinema RAW Light as on other Cinema EOS cameras such as as the C300 Mark III at up to 8K/60p (being first Canon camera to do this at 8K/60p)
- Ability to shoot 5.9K Raw video from a Super 35 crop and 2.9K capture from a Super 16 region of the sensor
- Addition of waveform and false color, a Timecode socket, capture HDR footage in the Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) broadcast standardability to capture HDR footage in the Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) broadcast standard
- Tally Light
What is not good in Canon R5 C?
- No Full-size HDMI port (Why Canon, why???)
- In-body Image Stabilization (IBIS) is removed (still has the electronic stabilization though)
- No built-in ND filters
- Big increase in body size, mainly thickness due to added Active Cooling
- At certain recording combination, the internal battery doesn't have enough power to operate the lens mount and only way to overcome this limitation by using an external power source such as DC Coupler DR-E6C, or not using alnes that requires power from the camera body.
- at $4499, it is $600 more expensive than the R5 C ( not a bad price though considering other Canon Cinema line camera prices)
- It would have benefited from 2 CF express card slots instead of 1 CF express and 1 SD
