Viltrox AF 50mm F1.4 Pro FE Lens Released for Sony E Mount Cameras
Viltrox has launched the AF 50mm F1.4 Pro FE, a full-frame prime made exclusively for Sony E-mount cameras. The AF 50mm becomes the second product in company's PRO series of F1.4 full-frame lenses, the first one being the AF 85mm f1.4 Pro FE. The E-mount already has plenty of fast fifties, but Viltrox keeps standing out from most Chinese third-party makers with real features, strong image quality, and solid build, sitting just behind Sigma and Tamron in my view. At $549, it’s a compelling and much more affordable alternative to Sony’s FE 50mm F1.4 GM (Compare). The one thing Viltrox still hasn’t cracked is size. Their lenses tend to run larger and heavier than Sony’s newer designs. For this AF 50mm F1.4, the Viltrox comes in 284 g heavier and 15 mm taller than the Sony 50mm F1.4 GM. I guess that’s the next step in Viltrox’s evolution.

Besides the aperture ring and AF/MF, the lens also sports a programmable focus hold button and an Aperture DeClick switch which makes the lens video friendly if you often change the aperture during a video shoot.
