New Sony FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM Lens with 1.4x Magnification and Teleconverter Compatibility
Sony’s new FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM caught us pleasantly off guard. We have been waiting for a replacement for the aging FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS which was released back in 2015, and this one delivers. The 1.4x maximum magnification and support for Sony's 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters are strong upgrade reasons on their own. That said, it should not be compared only with the 90mm. Two solid third-party contenders deserve a look as well: the Sigma 105mm F2.8 DG DN Macro and the Tamron 90mm F2.8 Di III VXD Macro F072, both recent and well-regarded.

The new FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM is the largest of the group, but not by much. The size is reasonable in my book, especially with its 1.4x magnification and teleconverter compatibility. Supporting extenders needs extra space between the mount and the first optical element, which naturally adds some length.
