GH7 is the latest Panasonic camera to feature Shutter Angle setting
Manufacturers have been packing their mirrorless cameras with so many professional video features these days that many of these cameras can now be used as B cams or even A cams in professional productions. However, it's surprising that so few of them—actually, only Panasonic—include the Shutter Angle feature. Shutter angle is essentially a software function, meaning it could 'easily' be added through a firmware update. Earlier this year, Sony announced plans to add the Shutter Angle feature to its FX3 and FX30 cinema series cameras via a firmware update expected in September 2024 which proves that it is possible. It's puzzling why most manufacturers are reluctant to implement this feature, especially in their most video-focused models.
Shutter Angle: The advantage of having a shutter angle setting in a camera, compared to a regular shutter speed setting, lies in having the exposure time automatically adjusted when you change the frame rate, keeping the motion blur consistent. This is especially useful in filmmaking, where different frame rates might be used for various effects like slow motion but the desired motion blur remains constant.

Below are the Panasonic models that offer this setting. We hope that more manufacturers will follow suit and incorporate the Shutter Angle setting into their cameras in the future.
