New Panasonic ZS300
Panasonic just dropped the ZS300 (aka TZ300) with 20.1MP 1" High-Sensitivity CMOS Sensor and 24-360mm lens, the 'stunning' successor to the ZS200 (aka TZ200). And by stunning, I mean I’m stunned they had the audacity to call this a new model. If you were hoping for a ground-breaking leap in technology, I hope you like looking at a different shaped hole for your charging cable, because that’s about all you’re getting.

In a move that can only be described as subtractive innovation, Panasonic has successfully replaced the ZS200 by giving us... mostly the exact same camera, but with fewer parts. The big, disappointing surprise? They’ve ditched the electronic viewfinder (EVF). You know, that helpful little window that lets you actually see your composition when the sun is out? Yeah, that's gone.
Panasonic ZS300 with USB-C Port fails to impress
Panasonic is leaning on the classic excuse that the necessary parts just aren't available. It’s a tragic tale, really. I’m sure it has absolutely nothing to do with cutting costs and everything to do with a global shortage of tiny glass rectangles. To distract us from this "crippled" hardware, they’ve graciously updated the port to USB-C. Because clearly, the one thing holding back your photography wasn't the inability to see your frame in broad daylight, it was the three seconds you lost fumbling with a Micro-USB cable.

If you enjoy paying new-camera prices for a downgrade wrapped in a "modern" charging port, the ZS300 is calling your name. For everyone else, maybe just hold onto your ZS200 and buy a USB-C adapter for five bucks.
