Panasonic Lumix GH7
Panasonic has surprised us with the unexpected announcement of the Panasonic Lumix GH7 MFT mirrorless camera. Unlike the grand launch of its recent Lumix S9, this release was more low-key. While the GH7 looks identical to its predecessor, the GH6, on the outside, it boasts numerous internal and software upgrades. The GH6 was a solid video camera, but it was outshone by the Panasonic G9 Mark II, which featured Phase Detection AF and a sensor with better dynamic range—both of which the GH6 lacked. With the GH7, Panasonic has addressed all these shortcomings, transforming it into an 'almost perfect' MFT hybrid camera.
Here are the main improvements of the GH7 over the GH6:
- Improved AF performance with Phase Detection Autofocus
- New 25.2MP BSI CMOS sensor with 13+ stop dynamic range boost (same as the one used in the G9 Mark II)
- Apple ProRes RAW internal recording
- 32-bit float recording using the optional DMW-XLR2 adapter
- Internal 5.7K 30p Apple ProRes 422 HQ and Apple ProRes RAW HQ recording
- Ability to record proxy files
- Ability to magnify the on-screen image while recording video
- Upload still images and proxy videos directly to the Adobe Cloud Frame.io platform
- Real-time LUT application
- Compatible with Lumix Lab App
- Human/Animal/Car/Motorcycle/Train/Airplane Recognition (both still and video modes)
- Pre-capture up to 1.5 seconds
- Addition of more aggressive image stabilization mode: Active I.S.

Price and Avaialability
The Panasonic Lumix GH7 has a suggested retail price of $2199 (same as the GH6 at launch in 2022), and it is expected to ship in July 2024.
