Fujifilm X-H2 vs X-H2s: 10 Main Differences

At a first glance, one may think the new Fujifilm X-H2 and the Fujifilm X-H2S  are almost identical except for the sensor resolutions (40MP vs 26MP)  but when you get deeper into the specs, you realize that there are several major differences between these cameras.

Here we have listed 10 differences that we could find which would help to decide which of these cameras are better for your needs.

1-Sensor Resolution

X-H2 has the higher 40 MP resolution sensor whereas the speed focused X-H2s sports a 26 MP sensor. This makes the X-H2 also the highest resolution APS-C camera in the market.

2-Max Video Resolution

X-H2 is the first Fujifilm camera to have a 8K video recording (4:2:2 10-bit Internal) while the X-H2s can only shoot 4K. X-H2 even has a 4K HQ mode that created a 4K from an oversampled 8K video. It's true that 8K video is not very common yet but it gives you a lot of room for cropping in post-process which is a big advantage.

3-Stacked Sensor

X-H2 has a non-stacked sensor while the X-H2s has the faster stacked type sensor which enables higher readout speeds hence less rolling shutter, higher contonuous shooting in electonic shutter.

4-Battery

X-H2 seems to be the more efficient camera with its 680 shots battery life compared to X-H2s's  580 shots battery life.

5-Pixel Shift

X-H2 has the Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function which gives 160 MP hihg-resolution images in software, the X-H2s doesn't have this feature.

6-Zero Blackout Viewfinder

Thanks to its stacked sensor, the X-H2s provides a zero blackout viewfinder experience while the X-H2 doesn't have this capability.

7-Max Continuous shooting

With its higher readout speeds and smaller image file sizes, the X-H2s can shoot up to 40fps with electronic shutter at full resolution while the X-H2 can only shoot up tp 13fps at full resolution with electronic shutter.

8-Electronic Shutter Speed

X-H2 has a max shutter speed of a whopping 1/180,000sand the X-H2s can only go down to 1/32000s.

9-Video shooting and Dynamic Range

Thanks to its stacked sensor, the X-H2S has less rolling shutter than the X-H2 ( 1/180s vs 1/88s at 4K) .  X-H2s also provides 14+ stops dynamic range whereas the X-H2 is listed as  13+ stops.

The X-H2S can also record in 4K at up to 120p and the X-H2 is limited to 4K 60p

10-Price

X-H2 has an MSRP of $1999 which is $500 less than the X-H2s which sells for $2499.

As you can see, there are some major differentiators between these two cameras and Fujifilm made the decision extremely difficult. My choice would be the X-H2 since I don't shoot video as often (and having 8K video is very tempting) as stills and $500 difference is quite substantial.
