Sony NEX-5 has a
14.0MP APS-C (23.4 x 15.6 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Bionz processor. On the other hand, Sony NEX-5T has a
16.0MP APS-C (23.4 x 15.6 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Bionz processor.
Below you can see the NEX-5 and NEX-5T sensor size comparison.
Sony NEX-5 and Sony NEX-5T have the same sensor sizes so they will provide same level of control over the depth of field when used with same focal length and aperture. On the other hand, since Sony NEX-5 has 14% larger pixel area compared to Sony NEX-5T, it has potential to collect more light on pixel level hence have less noise in low light / High ISO images.
DxOMark Sensor Scores
DxOMark is a benchmark that scientifically assesses image quality of camera sensors. It scores camera sensors for color depth (DXO Portrait), dynamic range (DXO Landscape) and low-light sensitivity (DXO Sports), and also gives them an overall score. Sony NEX-5 and Sony NEX-5T sensors have been tested by DxO and the results show that NEX-5T has a better overall score of 78, 9 points higher compared to NEX-5's score of 69.
