Panasonic GX8 vs Canon T6i Comparison Overview

Here we are comparing two cameras with different body types: Panasonic GX8, which was introduced in July 2015 is a Advanced Mirrorless camera with a 20.0MP Four Thirds sensor whereas Canon T6i, which was introduced in February 2015 is a Entry-Level DSLR camera with a 24.0MP APS-C sensor. There is only 5 months difference between GX8 and T6i so we are expecting this to be a fair comparison regarding age and technology level.

Despite some fundamental differences of these two body types, Mirrorless cameras are becoming serious alternatives to DSLR cameras thanks to their size/weight advantages and recent improvements in their focus speeds , which makes this comparison even more interesting.

Here is a brief look at the main features of the Panasonic GX8 and Canon T6i before getting into our more detailed comparison.

Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic GX8 and Canon T6i side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Panasonic GX8 is 68g lighter than the Canon T6i but we don't think this will make a significant difference.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since Canon T6i has an APS-C sized sensor and Panasonic GX8 has a smaller Four Thirds sensor, Panasonic GX8's lenses for a similar focal length and aperture will generally be lighter and smaller than the Canon T6i lenses.

Panasonic GX8 and Canon T6i's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.

Both cameras feature Fully Articulating screens where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels. Fully articulating screens are also useful for taking Selfies and video.

Panasonic GX8 vs Canon T6i Comparison of Available Lenses
Which camera has more lenses?

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. When we look at the available lenses for these two cameras, we see that the Canon T6i has an advantage over the Panasonic GX8 There are 333 lenses for the Canon T6i's Canon EF/EF-S mount, but on the other hand, there are only 121 lenses for the Panasonic GX8's Micro Four Thirds lens mount.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Panasonic GX8 has a big advantage in this regard because it has a sensor based image stabilization (IS) which means that all the lenses mounted to this body will be stabilized. On the other hand, Canon T6i doesn't have this feature so you have to buy a lens with optical stabilization feature.
