Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic GX8 and Panasonic GX9 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic GX8 has external dimensions of 133 x 78 x 63 mm (5.24 x 3.07 x 2.48″) and weighs 487 g (1.07 lb / 17.18 oz) (including batteries). Panasonic GX9 has external dimensions of 124 x 72 x 47 mm (4.88 x 2.83 x 1.85″) and weighs 450 g (0.99 lb / 14.36 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic GX8 and the Panasonic GX9. Panasonic GX9 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 9mm narrower, 6mm shorter and 16mm thinner than Panasonic GX8.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Panasonic GX8 and Panasonic GX9.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Panasonic GX8 and Panasonic GX9.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Panasonic GX9 is 37g lighter than the Panasonic GX8 but we don't think this will make a significant difference.
Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Panasonic GX8 and Panasonic GX9 have the same Micro Four Thirds lens mount and Four Thirds sized sensors, lenses will not be a differentiator on total size of the system.
Weather Sealing
With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the GX8 has a big advantage over the GX9 which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Panasonic GX8 and Panasonic GX9's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
Panasonic GX9 features a
Tilting-only screen which is mostly only good for shooting from waist or over-the-head levels. On the other hand, Panasonic GX8 sports a
Fully Articulated screen which is more flexible and useful, especially for taking selfies and video.
