Olympus E-P7 Sensor and Photography Features

Olympus E-P7 has a 20.0MP Four Thirds (17.4 x 13 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features TruePic VIII processor. You can shoot at maximum resolution of 5184 x 3888 pixels with aspect ratios of and 4:3. E-P7 has a native ISO range of 200 - 25600 which can be boosted to 100 and it can save files in RAW format which gives you a wider room for post processing.

Olympus E-P7 is not the highest resolution Four Thirds camera. Panasonic G9 II with its 25.2MP sensor is leading in this class. Check the comparison of Olympus E-P7 vs Panasonic G9 II or take a look at Highest resolution Mirrorless cameras list.

    Anti-Aliasing Filter

Another important feature about Olympus E-P7's sensor is the lack of anti-alias (Low-pass) filter. Removing anti-aliasing filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but on the other side it also increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Let's look at how the size of the Olympus E-P7's Four Thirds sensor compares with other standard sensor sizes.

    Olympus E-P7 Sensor Size Comparison
Comparison image of Olympus E-P7 Sensor Size with other standard sensors

    Olympus E-P7 LCD

Olympus E-P7 has a Tilting 3.00-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,040k dots. Tilting screens are more photography oriented while Fully articulated screens are highly preferred by videographers. Both the screen size and the screen resolution is up to the standards of this class.

LCD is Touch screen type, so you can change the settings and set the focus point with your fingertips.

Olympus E-P7 back view and LCD

For those of you who loves shooting selfies, self or group photos, Olympus E-P7 will make your life easier with its Selfie friendly screen. Another group of users who will take advantage of E-P7's LCD screen are Vloggers and any video creators who are working in a single-person setup.

E-P7 doesn't have a viewfinder and no option for external viewfinder. Lack of a viewfinder can be problematic especially under strong light where visibility of LCD screens goes down dramatically. If you need a Mirrorless camera with a built-in viewfinder in a similar price range, consider Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 (Compare) or Olympus OM-D E-M1 (Compare).
Alternatively, check here the list of all Mirrorless cameras with viewfinder..

One other feature that we like is the ability to use our smartphone as a remote to control our E-P7. You can change camera settings, release shutter, view LCD screen and tranfer files using remote control app.

You can connect E-P7 to compatible devices via its HDMI port or BLS-50 lithium-ion battery & USB charger port.

    Olympus E-P7 Battery

Olympus E-P7 is powered by BLS-50 battery which provides a battery life of 360 shots according to CIPA standards. Considering that the average battery life of Mirrorless type cameras is 389 shots, its battery life is about average in its class but it would still be wise to invest in some spare batteries for long photo trips.
