    Weather Sealing

Nikon S33 has environmental sealings on its body which makes it a weather resistant camera, providing resistance against the water and dust getting in to the camera. If you like outdoors photography and want to be able to use your camera in extreme conditions, Nikon S33 will serve you well.

    Nikon S33 Lens

Nikon S33 features a 30-90 mm F3.3-5.9 3× zoom lens. With a focal length of only 30mm on the wide end, it offers very limited wide angle capability . However, 90mm on the tele end means that the medium telephoto angle is well covered, only lacking the reach for wildlife and sports.

Nikon S33 Sensor and Photography Features

Nikon S33 has a 13.0MP 1/3.1' (4.7 x 3.5 mm ) sized CMOS sensor . You can shoot at maximum resolution of 4160 x 3120 pixels with aspect ratios of and 4:3. S33 has a native ISO range of 100 - 1600 but unfortunately, Nikon S33 doesn't have RAW file support. If you need a Compact camera with a RAW support, consider Nikon Coolpix P7000 or Olympus XZ-1 in the same price range.

Nikon S33 is not the highest resolution Small Sensor camera. Canon SX740 HS with its 21.0MP sensor is leading in this class. Check the comparison of Nikon S33 vs Canon SX740 HS or take a look at Highest resolution Compact cameras list.

Let's look at how the size of the Nikon S33's 1/3.1' sensor compares with other standard sensor sizes.

    Nikon S33 Sensor Size Comparison
Comparison image of Nikon S33 Sensor Size with other standard sensors

    Nikon S33 LCD

Nikon S33 has a Fixed Type 2.70-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 230k dots. At only 2.70", the screen is on the smaller side and 230kdot resolution is lower than most of the recent models in this class.

Nikon S33 back view and LCD

Unfortunately Nikon Coolpix S33 doesn't have a Selfie friendly screen. If this feature is important for your shooting style, check here the list of Best Compact Cameras with Selfie Friendly LCD screen.

S33 doesn't have a viewfinder and no option for external viewfinder. Lack of a viewfinder can be problematic especially under strong light where visibility of LCD screens goes down dramatically. If you need a Compact camera with a built-in viewfinder in a similar price range, consider Nikon Coolpix P7800 (Compare) or Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 (Lumix DMC-TZ100) (Compare).
Alternatively, check here the list of all Compact cameras with viewfinder..

Nikon S33 Connectivity, Storage and Battery

You can connect S33 to compatible devices via its HDMI port or USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/sec) port.

    Nikon S33 Battery

Nikon S33 is powered by EN-EL19 battery which provides a battery life of 220 shots according to CIPA standards. Considering that the average battery life of Compact type cameras is 256 shots, its battery life is about average in its class but it would still be wise to invest in some spare batteries for long photo trips.

    Nikon S33 Video Features

With Nikon S33, you can record your videos at a highest resolution of 1280 x 720 at 30p,25p fps and save in MPEG-4 and H.264 formats. 1280 x 720 is a low video resolution by todays standards. If video quality is important for you, we recommend you to look at cameras with Full HD, even better 4K / Ultra-HD resolution .

    Microphones, Speaker and Headphone Connections

Nikon Coolpix S33 has a built-in Stereo microphone and a Mono speaker. On the other hand, Nikon S33 doesn't have any connections for external microphones and headphones. If you need a Compact camera with external microphone connectivity, consider Nikon Coolpix P7000 or Samsung PL120 in a similar price range.
