Canon 60D vs Canon 50D: Physical Specs and Body features Comparison

Size and weight is a big decision factor when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, We are going to illustrate Canon 60D and Canon 50D side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Weight is another important factor especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Canon 60D is 67g lighter than the Canon 50D but we don't think this will make a significant difference.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you have to also take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Canon 60D and Canon 50D have the same Canon EF/EF-S lens mount and APS-C sized sensors, lenses will not be a differentiator on total size of the system.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Canon 60D and Canon 50D's LCD screens has the same diagonal size of 3.00".

On the other hand, Canon 60D sports a Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over the head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. Canon 50D's LCD screen is a fixed type which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to 60D.

Canon 60D vs Canon 50D: Sensor Comparison

Canon 60D has a 18.0MP APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Digic 4 processor. On the other hand, Canon 50D has a 15.0MP APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Digic 4 processor.

Below you can see the 60D and 50D sensor size comparison.

Canon 60D vs Canon 50D Sensor Size Comparison
Sensor Size and Resolution Comparison image of Canon 60D and Canon 50D Cameras

Canon 60D and Canon 50D have the same sensor sizes so they will provide same level of control over the depth of field when used with same focal length and aperture. On the other hand, since Canon 50D has 19% larger pixel area (22.08µm2 vs 18.54µm2) compared to Canon 60D, it has larger pixel area to collect light hence potential to have less noise in low light / High ISO images.

DxOMark Sensor Scores

Both Canon 60D and Canon 50D sensors have been tested by DxoMark. DxoMark scores camera sensors for color depth (DXO Portrait), dynamic range (DXO Landscape) and low-light sensitivity (DXO Sports), and also gives them an overall score. Of the two cameras that we are comparing, 60D has scored 66, 3 points higher than 50D.

Model Overall Color Depth Dynamic Range Low-light ISO
