Nikon Z5 vs Canon RP Comparison Overview

In this review, we will be comparing the Z5 and the EOS RP, two Advanced Mirrorless cameras from Nikon and Canon. Nikon Z5 was introduced to the market in July 2020 and Canon RP was launched in February 2019. There is 17 months difference between Z5 and EOS RP so we don't expect to see a huge technology difference between these two cameras but it would still give an advantage to younger Z5, especially in sensor tech.

We can expect this to be a close match up because both models are ranked amongst the best in Advanced Mirrorless cameras. Out of 61 cameras in this class, Nikon Z5 is ranked #3 with an overall score of 84 and Canon RP is ranked #10 with an overall score of 77.

Since both Nikon Z5 and Canon RP have the same Full frame sized sensor, their lenses for a similar focal length and aperture will be similar in size and weight.

Which camera has more lenses?

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Nikon Z5 has a big advantage in this regard because it has a sensor based image stabilization (IS) which means that all the lenses mounted to this body will be stabilized. Z5's built-in Image stabilization system is effective for compensating vibration up to 5.0-stops according to CIPA standards.
On the other hand, Canon RP doesn't have this feature so you have to buy a lens with optical stabilization feature. Currently there are 26 lenses for Canon RF mount with Optical Image Stabilization features.
