Canon 90D vs Nikon D7500: Physical Specs and Body Features Comparison

Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Canon 90D and Nikon D7500 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Canon 90D has external dimensions of 141 x 105 x 77 mm (5.55 x 4.13 x 3.03″) and weighs 701 g (1.55 lb / 24.73 oz) (including batteries). Nikon D7500 has external dimensions of 136 x 104 x 73 mm (5.35 x 4.09 x 2.87″) and weighs 720 g (1.59 lb / 25.40 oz) (including batteries).

Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Canon 90D and the Nikon D7500. Nikon D7500 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 5mm narrower, 1mm shorter and 4mm thinner than Canon 90D.

Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Canon 90D is 19g lighter than the Nikon D7500 but we don't think this will make a significant difference.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Canon 90D and Nikon D7500 have the same APS-C sized sensor, their lenses for a similar focal length and aperture will be similar in size and weight.

Canon 90D vs Nikon D7500: Sensor Comparison

Canon 90D has a 33.0MP APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features DIGIC 8 processor. On the other hand, Nikon D7500 has a 21.0MP APS-C (23.5 x 15.7 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Expeed 5 processor.

Canon 90D's sensor provides 12MP more than Nikon D7500's sensor, which gives a significant advantage in real life. You can print your images larger or crop more freely. On the other hand, please keep in mind that Max sensor resolution is not the only determinant of resolving power. Factors such as the optical elements, low pass filter, pixel size and sensor technology also affects the final resolution of the captured image.

One other difference between these two cameras that is worth mentioning is that Nikon D7500's sensor doesn't have an anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the 90D and D7500 sensor size comparison.

Sensor Size and Resolution Comparison image of Canon 90D and Nikon D7500 Cameras

As seen above, Nikon D7500 has a 1.1x Larger sensor area than Canon 90D. Larger sensors give photographer more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture.

Canon 90D vs Nikon D7500 Comparison of Available Lenses
Which camera has more lenses?

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. When we look at the available lenses for these two cameras, we see that the Canon 90D has an advantage over the Nikon D7500. There are 333 lenses for the Canon 90D's Canon EF/EF-S mount, but on the other hand, there are only 316 lenses for the Nikon D7500's Nikon F lens mount.
