Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Pentax KP and Pentax K-3 II side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Pentax KP has external dimensions of 132 x 101 x 76 mm (5.2 x 3.98 x 2.99″) and weighs 703 g (1.55 lb / 24.80 oz) (including batteries). Pentax K-3 II has external dimensions of 131 x 100 x 77 mm (5.16 x 3.94 x 3.03″) and weighs 800 g (1.76 lb / 28.22 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Pentax KP and the Pentax K-3 II. Pentax K-3 II is 1mm narrower and 1mm shorter than Pentax KP but it is also 1mm thicker.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Pentax KP and Pentax K-3 II.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Pentax KP and Pentax K-3 II.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Pentax KP is 97g lighter than the Pentax K-3 II but we don't think this will make a significant difference.
Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Pentax KP and Pentax K-3 II have the same Pentax KAF2 lens mount and APS-C sized sensors, lenses will not be a differentiator on total size of the system.
Weather Sealing
Both the KP and the K-3 II have weather sealings in their bodies, making them resistant to water and dust.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Pentax K-3 II's 3.20" LCD screen is slightly larger than Pentax KP's 3 screen.
On the other hand, Pentax KP LCD screen has a
Tilting feature where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels. On the other hand, Pentax K-3 II has a fixed type screen which provides less flexibility in shooting positions compared to KP.
