Canon SL3 Sensor and Photography Features

Canon SL3 has a 24.0MP APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features DIGIC 8 processor. You can shoot at maximum resolution of 6000 x 4000 pixels with aspect ratios of 1:1, 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9. SL3 has a native ISO range of 100 - 25600 which can be boosted to 51200 and it can save files in RAW format which gives you a wider room for post processing.

Canon SL3 is not the highest resolution APS-C camera. Fujifilm X-T5 with its 40.2MP sensor is leading in this class. Check the comparison of Canon SL3 vs Fujifilm X-T5 or take a look at Highest resolution DSLR cameras list.

Let's look at how the size of the Canon SL3's APS-C sensor compares with other standard sensor sizes.

    Canon SL3 LCD and Viewfinder

Canon SL3 has a Fully Articulated 3.00-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,040k dots. Articulated screens are more video oriented compared to only tilting or fixed screens. On the other hand, photography oriented users generally prefer tilting screens. Both the screen size and the screen resolution is up to the standards of this class.

LCD is Touch screen type, so you can change the settings and set the focus point with your fingertips.

Canon SL3 back view and LCD

For those of you who loves shooting selfies, self or group photos, Canon SL3 will make your life easier with its Selfie friendly screen. Another group of users who will take advantage of SL3's LCD screen are Vloggers and any video creators who are working in a single-person setup.

SL3 has a built-in Optical (pentamirror) viewfinder, making it easier to shoot in direct sunlight and in other situations where it might be difficult to view the LCD monitor. The viewfinder has a coverage of 95% and a magnification ratio of 0.54x. 95% coverage means that what you see in your viewfinder while shooting will slightly be different from the actual image.

Canon SL3 Connectivity, Storage and Battery

Canon SL3 features built-in wireless (Wi-Fi) connectivity ( 802.11b/g/n + Bluetooth) which lets you transfer your photos directly to compatible devices without any physical connection. Canon SL3's Bluetooth connectivity feature comes handy for connecting other devices that supports it. One other feature that we like is the ability to use our smartphone as a remote to control our SL3. You can change camera settings, release shutter, view LCD screen and tranfer files using remote control app.

You can connect SL3 to compatible devices via its HDMI port or USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/sec) port.

    Canon SL3 Battery

Canon SL3 is powered by LP-E17 battery which provides a battery life of 1070 shots according to CIPA standards. Considering that the average battery life of DSLR type cameras is 943 shots, its battery life is about average in its class but it would still be wise to invest in some spare batteries for long photo trips.
