    Weather Sealing

Canon M3 doesn't have any environmental sealings on its body so you got to be extra careful to protect it against water and dust. If you shoot under these conditions very often, consider checking Top Mirrorless Cameras with Weather Sealing page.

Canon M3 Lens Mount and Lenses

Canon M3 has a Canon EF-M lens mount and currently there are 29 native lenses available for this mount. Canon is criticized for joining the mirrorless game too late and not providing enough native lenses for the EF-M mount. To mitigate this problem, Canon M users can use EF-M adapter to use full selection of Canon EF and EF-S lenses with AF and Image stabilization.

Canon M3 doesn't have a sensor based image stabilization system but 6 of these lenses already comes with Optical Image Stabilization.

Weather Sealed Lenses for Canon M3

There are 2 lenses with weather sealing for Canon M3 but bear in mind that M3 body doesn't have weather sealings.

Canon M3 Sensor and Photography Features

Canon M3 has a 24.0MP APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features DIGIC 6 processor. You can shoot at maximum resolution of 6000 x 4000 pixels with aspect ratios of 1:1, 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9. M3 has a native ISO range of 100 - 12800 which can be boosted to 25600 and it can save files in RAW format which gives you a wider room for post processing.

Canon M3 is not the highest resolution APS-C camera. Canon M6 MII with its 33.0MP sensor is leading in this class. Check the comparison of Canon M3 vs Canon M6 MII or take a look at Highest resolution Mirrorless cameras list.

    Canon M3 DxOMark Sensor Scores

DxOMark is a benchmark that scientifically assesses image quality of camera sensors. Canon M3 sensor has been tested by DxO Mark and got an overall score of 72 for its image quality. You can find the details of their analysis of Canon M3 here.

Let's look at how the size of the Canon M3's APS-C sensor compares with other standard sensor sizes.

    Canon M3 Sensor Size Comparison
Comparison image of Canon M3 Sensor Size with other standard sensors

    Canon M3 LCD

Canon M3 has a Tilting 3.00-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,040k dots. Tilting screens are more photography oriented while Fully articulated screens are highly preferred by videographers. Both the screen size and the screen resolution is up to the standards of this class.

LCD is Touch screen type, so you can change the settings and set the focus point with your fingertips.

Canon M3 back view and LCD

For those of you who loves shooting selfies, self or group photos, Canon M3 will make your life easier with its Selfie friendly screen. Another group of users who will take advantage of M3's LCD screen are Vloggers and any video creators who are working in a single-person setup.

M3 doesn't have a built-in viewfinder but an optional external viewfinder is available. Lack of a viewfinder can be problematic especially under strong light where visibility of LCD screens goes down dramatically. If you need a Mirrorless camera with a built-in viewfinder in a similar price range, consider Fujifilm X-T200 (Compare) or Fujifilm X-H1 (Compare).
Alternatively, check here the list of all Mirrorless cameras with viewfinder..

Canon M3 Connectivity, Storage and Battery

Canon M3 features built-in wireless (Wi-Fi) connectivity ( 802.11b/g/n with NFC) which lets you transfer your photos directly to compatible devices without any physical connection. With its NFC feature, M3 can communicate with devices such as smartphones which are also equipped with this technology by simply touching each other. One other feature that we like is the ability to use our smartphone as a remote to control our M3. You can change camera settings, release shutter, view LCD screen and tranfer files using remote control app.

You can connect M3 to compatible devices via its HDMI port or USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/sec) port.

    Canon M3 Battery

Canon M3 is powered by LP-E17 battery which provides a battery life of 250 shots according to CIPA standards. Considering that the average battery life of Mirrorless type cameras is 375 shots, Canon M3 has a short battery life for its class so we strongly recommend M3 owners to invest in some extra batteries.
