Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Sony ZV-1 and Panasonic GX8 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Sony ZV-1 has external dimensions of 105 x 60 x 44 mm (4.13 x 2.36 x 1.73″) and weighs 294 g (0.65 lb / 10.37 oz) (including batteries). Panasonic GX8 has external dimensions of 133 x 78 x 63 mm (5.24 x 3.07 x 2.48″) and weighs 487 g (1.07 lb / 17.18 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Sony ZV-1 and the Panasonic GX8. Sony ZV-1 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 28mm narrower, 18mm shorter and 19mm thinner than Panasonic GX8. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Sony ZV-1 has a built-in lens but Panasonic GX8 doesn't. Once you put a lens on GX8, its thickness will increase significantly.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Sony ZV-1 and Panasonic GX8.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Sony ZV-1 and Panasonic GX8.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Sony ZV-1 is significantly lighter (193g ) than the Panasonic GX8 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on GX8, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
Thanks to the weather-sealed body of the GX8, you can use this camera with more confidence under conditions where there is risk of exposure to water and dust compared to the ZV-1.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Sony ZV-1 and Panasonic GX8's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
Both cameras feature
Fully Articulating screens where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels. Fully articulating screens are also useful for taking Selfies and video.
