Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Sony A6500 and Panasonic LZ40 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Sony A6500 has external dimensions of 120 x 67 x 53 mm (4.72 x 2.64 x 2.09″) and weighs 453 g (1.00 lb / 15.98 oz) (including batteries). Panasonic LZ40 has external dimensions of 126 x 87 x 94 mm (4.96 x 3.43 x 3.7″) and weighs 524 g (1.16 lb / 18.48 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Sony A6500 and the Panasonic LZ40. Sony A6500 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 6mm narrower, 20mm shorter and 41mm thinner than Panasonic LZ40. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Panasonic LZ40 has a built-in lens but Sony A6500 doesn't. Once you put a lens on A6500, its thickness will increase significantly.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Sony A6500 and Panasonic LZ40.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Sony A6500 is 71g lighter than the Panasonic LZ40 but we don't think this will make a significant difference.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on A6500, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the A6500 has a big advantage over the LZ40 which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Sony A6500 and Panasonic LZ40's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
On the other hand, Sony A6500 features a
Tilting screen where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels whereas the Panasonic LZ40 has a fixed type screen which provides less flexibility in shooting positions compared to A6500.
