Sigma fp vs Canon R5: Physical Specs and Body Features Comparison

Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Sigma fp and Canon R5 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Sigma fp has external dimensions of 113 x 70 x 45 mm (4.45 x 2.76 x 1.77″) and weighs 422 g (0.93 lb / 14.89 oz) (including batteries). Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Sigma fp is significantly lighter (316g ) than the Canon R5 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Sigma fp and Canon R5 have the same Full frame sized sensor, their lenses for a similar focal length and aperture will be similar in size and weight.

Weather Sealing

Both the fp and the R5 have weather sealings in their bodies, making them resistant to water and dust.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Sigma fp and Canon R5's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.20 inches.

On the other hand, Canon R5 sports a Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. Sigma fp's LCD screen is a fixed type which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to R5.

Sigma fp vs Canon R5: Sensor Comparison

Sigma fp has a 25.0MP Full frame (35.9 x 23.9 mm ) sized BSI-CMOS sensor . On the other hand, Canon R5 has a 45.0MP Full frame (36 x 24 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Digic X processor.

Canon R5's sensor provides 20MP more than Sigma fp's sensor, which gives a significant advantage in real life. You can print your images larger or crop more freely. On the other hand, please keep in mind that Max sensor resolution is not the only determinant of resolving power. Factors such as the optical elements, low pass filter, pixel size and sensor technology also affects the final resolution of the captured image.

Below you can see the fp and R5 sensor size comparison.

Sigma fp vs Canon R5 Sensor Size Comparison

Sigma fp and Canon R5 have almost the same sensor size, so neither of them has any significant advantage over the other in terms of providing control over depth of field when used with the same focal length and aperture.

Sigma fp vs Canon R5 Comparison of Available Lenses
Which camera has more lenses?

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. When we look at the available lenses for these two cameras, we see that the Sigma fp has an advantage over the Canon R5. There are 62 lenses for the Sigma fp's Leica L mount, but on the other hand, there are only 37 lenses for the Canon R5's Canon RF lens mount.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Canon R5 has a big advantage in this regard because it has a sensor based image stabilization which means that all the lenses mounted to this body will be stabilized. R5's built-in Image stabilization system is effective for compensating vibration up to 8.0-stops according to CIPA standards.
On the other hand, Sigma fp doesn't have this feature so you have to buy a lens with optical stabilization feature. Currently there are 10 lenses for Leica L mount with Optical Image Stabilization features.
