Samsung TL500 has a
10.0MP 1/1.7-inch (7.44 x 5.58 mm ) sized CCD sensor . On the other hand, Canon G9 X has a
20.0MP 1″ (13.2 x 8.8 mm ) sized BSI-CMOS sensor and features DIGIC 6 processor.
Canon G9 X's sensor provides 10MP more than Samsung TL500's sensor, which gives a significant advantage in real life. You can print your images larger or crop more freely.
On the other hand, please keep in mind that Max sensor resolution is not the only determinant of resolving power. Factors such as the optical elements, low pass filter, pixel size and sensor technology also affects the final resolution of the captured image.

DxOMark is a benchmark that scientifically assesses image quality of camera sensors. It scores camera sensors for color depth (DXO Portrait), dynamic range (DXO Landscape) and low-light sensitivity (DXO Sports), and also gives them an overall score. Samsung TL500 and Canon G9 X sensors have been tested by DxO and the results show that G9 X has a better overall score of 63, 23 points higher compared to TL500's score of 40.
