Ricoh G900 vs Fujifilm X-Pro3 Comparison Overview

Here we are comparing two cameras with different body types: Ricoh G900, which was introduced in February 2018 is a Waterproof camera with a 20.0MP 1/2.3 sensor whereas Fujifilm X-Pro3, which was introduced in October 2019 is a Advanced Mirrorless camera with a 26.0MP APS-C sensor. There is 20 months difference between G900 and X-Pro3 so we don't expect to see a huge technology difference between these two cameras but it would still give an advantage to younger X-Pro3, especially in sensor tech.

Comparing an interchangeble lens camera to a fixed lens camera is a bit tricky but we will do our best to make this a fair comparison.

Ricoh G900 vs Fujifilm X-Pro3: Physical Specs and Body Features Comparison

Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Ricoh G900 and Fujifilm X-Pro3 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Ricoh G900 has external dimensions of 118 x 66 x 33 mm (4.65 x 2.6 x 1.3″) and weighs 247 g (0.54 lb / 8.71 oz) (including batteries). Fujifilm X-Pro3 has external dimensions of 141 x 83 x 46 mm (5.55 x 3.27 x 1.81″) and weighs 497 g (1.10 lb / 17.53 oz) (including batteries).

Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Ricoh G900 and the Fujifilm X-Pro3. Ricoh G900 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 23mm narrower, 17mm shorter and 13mm thinner than Fujifilm X-Pro3. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Ricoh G900 has a built-in lens but Fujifilm X-Pro3 doesn't. Once you put a lens on X-Pro3, its thickness will increase significantly.

Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Ricoh G900 is significantly lighter (250g ) than the Fujifilm X-Pro3 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.

Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on X-Pro3, the total kit will weigh much higher.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Ricoh G900 and Fujifilm X-Pro3's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.

On the other hand, Fujifilm X-Pro3 features a Tilting screen where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels whereas the Ricoh G900 has a fixed type screen which provides less flexibility in shooting positions compared to X-Pro3.

Ricoh G900 vs Fujifilm X-Pro3: Sensor Comparison

Ricoh G900 has a 20.0MP 1/2.3 (6.17 x 4.55 mm ) sized BSI-CMOS sensor . On the other hand, Fujifilm X-Pro3 has a 26.0MP APS-C (23.5 x 15.6 mm ) sized BSI-CMOS sensor and features X-Processor 4 processor.

Fujifilm X-Pro3's sensor provides 6MP more than Ricoh G900's sensor, which gives a significant advantage in real life. You can print your images larger or crop more freely. On the other hand, please keep in mind that Max sensor resolution is not the only determinant of resolving power. Factors such as the optical elements, low pass filter, pixel size and sensor technology also affects the final resolution of the captured image.

One other difference between these two cameras that is worth mentioning is that Fujifilm X-Pro3's sensor doesn't have an anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the G900 and X-Pro3 sensor size comparison.
