Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Pentax KP and Canon SX540 HS side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Pentax KP has external dimensions of 132 x 101 x 76 mm (5.2 x 3.98 x 2.99″) and weighs 703 g (1.55 lb / 24.80 oz) (including batteries). Canon SX540 HS has external dimensions of 120 x 82 x 92 mm (4.72 x 3.23 x 3.62″) and weighs 442 g (0.97 lb / 15.59 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Pentax KP and the Canon SX540 HS. Canon SX540 HS is 12mm narrower and 19mm shorter than Pentax KP but it is also 16mm thicker. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Canon SX540 HS has a built-in lens but Pentax KP doesn't. Once you put a lens on KP, its thickness will increase significantly.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Pentax KP and Canon SX540 HS.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Pentax KP and Canon SX540 HS.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Canon SX540 HS is significantly lighter (261g ) than the Pentax KP which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on KP, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the KP has a big advantage over the SX540 HS which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Pentax KP and Canon SX540 HS's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
On the other hand, Pentax KP features a
Tilting screen where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels whereas the Canon SX540 HS has a fixed type screen which provides less flexibility in shooting positions compared to KP.
