Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic GX8 and Sony W650 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic GX8 has external dimensions of 133 x 78 x 63 mm (5.24 x 3.07 x 2.48″) and weighs 487 g (1.07 lb / 17.18 oz) (including batteries). Sony W650 has external dimensions of 94 x 56 x 19 mm (3.7 x 2.2 x 0.75″) and weighs 124 g (0.27 lb / 4.37 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic GX8 and the Sony W650. Sony W650 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 39mm narrower, 22mm shorter and 44mm thinner than Panasonic GX8. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Sony W650 has a built-in lens but Panasonic GX8 doesn't. Once you put a lens on GX8, its thickness will increase significantly.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Panasonic GX8 and Sony W650.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Sony W650 is significantly lighter (363g ) than the Panasonic GX8 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on GX8, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the GX8 has a big advantage over the W650 which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Panasonic GX8 and Sony W650's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
On the other hand, Panasonic GX8 sports a
Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. Sony W650's LCD screen is a fixed type which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to GX8.
