Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic G7 and Panasonic GF1 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic G7 has external dimensions of 125 x 86 x 77 mm (4.92 x 3.39 x 3.03″) and weighs 410 g (0.90 lb / 14.46 oz) (including batteries). Panasonic GF1 has external dimensions of 119 x 71 x 36 mm (4.69 x 2.8 x 1.43″) and weighs 385 g (0.85 lb / 13.58 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic G7 and the Panasonic GF1. Panasonic GF1 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 6mm narrower, 15mm shorter and 41mm thinner than Panasonic G7.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Panasonic G7 and Panasonic GF1.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Panasonic G7 and Panasonic GF1.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Panasonic GF1 is 25g lighter than the Panasonic G7 but we don't think this will make a significant difference.
Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Panasonic G7 and Panasonic GF1 have the same Micro Four Thirds lens mount and Four Thirds sized sensors, lenses will not be a differentiator on total size of the system.
Weather Sealing
Unfortunately neither the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 nor Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 provides any type of weather sealing in their bodies, so you have to give extra care especially when you are shooting outdoors. If weather sealing is a must-have feature for you, check these sections: Top Mirrorless Cameras with Weather Sealing
LCD Screen Size and Features
Panasonic G7 and Panasonic GF1's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
On the other hand, Panasonic G7 sports a
Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. Panasonic GF1's LCD screen is a fixed type which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to G7.
