Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic S1H and Canon SX540 HS side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic S1H has external dimensions of 151 x 114 x 110 mm (5.94 x 4.49 x 4.33″) and weighs 1052 g (2.32 lb / 37.11 oz) (including batteries). Canon SX540 HS has external dimensions of 120 x 82 x 92 mm (4.72 x 3.23 x 3.62″) and weighs 442 g (0.97 lb / 15.59 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic S1H and the Canon SX540 HS. Canon SX540 HS is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 31mm narrower, 32mm shorter and 18mm thinner than Panasonic S1H. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Canon SX540 HS has a built-in lens but Panasonic S1H doesn't. Once you put a lens on S1H, its thickness will increase significantly.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Panasonic S1H and Canon SX540 HS.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Panasonic S1H and Canon SX540 HS.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Canon SX540 HS is significantly lighter (610g ) than the Panasonic S1H which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on S1H, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the S1H has a big advantage over the SX540 HS which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Panasonic S1H's 3.20" LCD screen is slightly larger than Canon SX540 HS's 3 screen.
Moreover, Panasonic S1H sports a
Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. On the other hand, Canon SX540 HS has a fixed type screen which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to S1H.
