Panasonic G9 vs Samsung NX2000: Physical Specs and Body Features Comparison

Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic G9 and Samsung NX2000 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic G9 has external dimensions of 137 x 97 x 92 mm (5.39 x 3.82 x 3.62″) and weighs 658 g (1.45 lb / 23.21 oz) (including batteries). Samsung NX2000 has external dimensions of 119 x 65 x 36 mm (4.69 x 2.56 x 1.42″) and weighs 228 g (0.50 lb / 8.04 oz) (including batteries).

Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic G9 and the Samsung NX2000. Samsung NX2000 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 18mm narrower, 32mm shorter and 56mm thinner than Panasonic G9.

Now lets look at the top view comparison of Panasonic G9 and Samsung NX2000.

Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Samsung NX2000 is significantly lighter (430g ) than the Panasonic G9 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since Samsung NX2000 has an APS-C sized sensor and Panasonic G9 has a smaller Four Thirds sensor, Panasonic G9's lenses for a similar focal length and aperture will generally be lighter and smaller than the Samsung NX2000 lenses.

Weather Sealing

With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the G9 has a big advantage over the NX2000 which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Samsung NX2000's 3.70" LCD screen is slightly larger than Panasonic G9's 3 screen.

On the other hand, Panasonic G9 sports a Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. On the other hand, Samsung NX2000 has a fixed type screen which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to G9.

Panasonic G9 vs Samsung NX2000: Sensor Comparison

Both Panasonic G9 and Samsung NX2000 have 20.0 MP resolution sensors but Panasonic G9's sensor is Four Thirds (17.3 x 13 mm ) and Samsung NX2000's sensor is APS-C (23.5 x 15.7 mm ).

Since Samsung NX2000's has a larger sensor area with the same resolution, this means that it also has a larger pixel area hence better light collecting capacity for a given aperture compared to Panasonic G9.

Another difference between these two cameras is that Panasonic G9's sensor lacks anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the G9 and NX2000 sensor size comparison.

Panasonic G9 vs Samsung NX2000 Sensor Size Comparison
Sensor Size and Resolution Comparison image of Panasonic G9 and Samsung NX2000 Cameras

As seen above, Samsung NX2000 has a 1.6x Larger sensor area than Panasonic G9. Larger sensors give photographer more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture.

Panasonic G9 vs Samsung NX2000 Comparison of Available Lenses
Which camera has more lenses?

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. When we look at the available lenses for these two cameras, we see that the Panasonic G9 has an advantage over the Samsung NX2000. There are 121 lenses for the Panasonic G9's Micro Four Thirds mount, but on the other hand, there are only 34 lenses for the Samsung NX2000's Samsung NX lens mount.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Panasonic G9 has a big advantage in this regard because it has a sensor based image stabilization (IS) which means that all the lenses mounted to this body will be stabilized. G9's built-in Image stabilization system is effective for compensating vibration up to 6.5-stops according to CIPA standards.
On the other hand, Samsung NX2000 doesn't have this feature so you have to buy a lens with optical stabilization feature. Currently there are 7 lenses for Samsung NX mount with Optical Image Stabilization features.
