Panasonic G9 vs Canon S110: Physical Specs and Body features Comparison

Size and weight is a big decision factor when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, We are going to illustrate Panasonic G9 and Canon S110 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic G9 has external dimensions of 137 x 97 x 92 mm (5.39 x 3.82 x 3.62″) and weighs 658 g (1.45 lb / 23.21 oz) (including batteries). Canon S110 has external dimensions of 99 x 59 x 27 mm (3.9 x 2.32 x 1.06″) and weighs 198 g (0.44 lb / 6.98 oz) (including batteries).

Below you can see the front view size comparison of Panasonic G9 and Canon S110. Canon S110 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 38mm narrower, 38mm shorter and 65mm thinner than Panasonic G9. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Canon S110 has a built-in lens but Panasonic G9 doesn't. Once you put a lens on G9, its thickness will increase significantly.

Now lets look at the top view comparison of Panasonic G9 and Canon S110.

Weight is another important factor especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Canon S110 is significantly lighter (460g ) than the Panasonic G9 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.

Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on G9, the total kit will weigh much higher.

Weather Sealing

With its weather sealed body, we believe that G9 has a big advantage over S110 which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Panasonic G9 and Canon S110's LCD screens has the same diagonal size of 3.00".

On the other hand, Panasonic G9 sports a Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over the head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. Canon S110's LCD screen is a fixed type which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to G9.
Panasonic G9 vs Canon S110: Sensor Comparison

Panasonic G9 has a 20.0MP Four Thirds (17.3 x 13 mm ) sized CMOS sensor . On the other hand, Canon S110 has a 12.0MP 1/1.7-inch (7.44 x 5.58 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Digic 5 processor.

Panasonic G9's sensor provides 8MP more than Canon S110's sensor, which gives a significant advantage in real life. You can print your images larger or crop more freely. On the other hand, please keep in mind that Max sensor resolution is not the only determinant of resolving power. Factors such as the optical elements, low pass filter, pixel size and sensor technology also affects the final resolution of the captured image.

Another difference between these two cameras is that Panasonic G9's sensor lacks anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moire occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the G9 and S110 sensor size comparison.

Sensor Size and Resolution Comparison image of Panasonic G9 and Canon S110 Cameras

As seen above, Panasonic G9 has a 5.4x Larger sensor area than Canon S110. Larger sensors give photographer more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture.
