Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Olympus E-M1 and Panasonic G7 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Olympus E-M1 has external dimensions of 130 x 94 x 63 mm (5.13 x 3.68 x 2.48″) and weighs 497 g (1.10 lb / 17.53 oz) (including batteries). Panasonic G7 has external dimensions of 125 x 86 x 77 mm (4.92 x 3.39 x 3.03″) and weighs 410 g (0.90 lb / 14.46 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Olympus E-M1 and the Panasonic G7. Panasonic G7 is 5mm narrower and 8mm shorter than Olympus E-M1 but it is also 14mm thicker.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Olympus E-M1 and Panasonic G7.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Olympus E-M1 and Panasonic G7.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Panasonic G7 is significantly lighter (87g ) than the Olympus E-M1 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Olympus E-M1 and Panasonic G7 have the same Micro Four Thirds lens mount and Four Thirds sized sensors, lenses will not be a differentiator on total size of the system.
Weather Sealing
With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the E-M1 has a big advantage over the G7 which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Olympus E-M1 and Panasonic G7's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
Olympus E-M1 features a
Tilting-only screen which is mostly only good for shooting from waist or over-the-head levels. On the other hand, Panasonic G7 sports a
Fully Articulated screen which is more flexible and useful, especially for taking selfies and video.
