Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Nikon S620 and Nikon 1 AW1 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Nikon S620 has external dimensions of 53 x 90 x 23 mm (2.09 x 3.54 x 0.91″) and weighs 120 g (0.26 lb / 4.23 oz) (including batteries). Nikon 1 AW1 has external dimensions of 114 x 72 x 37 mm (4.47 x 2.81 x 1.46″) and weighs 356 g (0.78 lb / 12.6 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Nikon S620 and the Nikon 1 AW1. Nikon S620 is 61mm narrower and 14mm thinner than Nikon 1 AW1 but it is also 18mm taller. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Nikon S620 has a built-in lens but Nikon 1 AW1 doesn't. Once you put a lens on 1 AW1, its thickness will increase significantly.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Nikon S620 and Nikon 1 AW1.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Nikon S620 is significantly lighter (236g ) than the Nikon 1 AW1 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on 1 AW1, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
Thanks to the weather-sealed body of the 1 AW1, you can use this camera with more confidence under conditions where there is risk of exposure to water and dust compared to the S620.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Nikon 1 AW1's 3.00" LCD screen is slightly larger than Nikon S620's 2.7" screen.
Unfortunately, both cameras has fixed screens so they don't tilt or flip in directions.
