Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Nikon P510 and Panasonic GX8 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Nikon P510 has external dimensions of 120 x 83 x 102 mm (4.72 x 3.27 x 4.02″) and weighs 555 g (1.22 lb / 19.58 oz) (including batteries). Panasonic GX8 has external dimensions of 133 x 78 x 63 mm (5.24 x 3.07 x 2.48″) and weighs 487 g (1.07 lb / 17.18 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Nikon P510 and the Panasonic GX8. Panasonic GX8 is 5mm shorter and 39mm thinner than Nikon P510 but it is also 13mm wider. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Nikon P510 has a built-in lens but Panasonic GX8 doesn't. Once you put a lens on GX8, its thickness will increase significantly.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Nikon P510 and Panasonic GX8.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Nikon P510 and Panasonic GX8.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Panasonic GX8 is 68g lighter than the Nikon P510 but we don't think this will make a significant difference.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on GX8, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
Thanks to the weather-sealed body of the GX8, you can use this camera with more confidence under conditions where there is risk of exposure to water and dust compared to the P510.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Nikon P510 and Panasonic GX8's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
Nikon P510 features a
Tilting-only screen which is mostly only good for shooting from waist or over-the-head levels. On the other hand, Panasonic GX8 sports a
Fully Articulated screen which is more flexible and useful, especially for taking selfies and video.
