Leica TL2 vs Panasonic S1R: Sensor Comparison

Leica TL2 has a 24.0MP APS-C (23.6 x 15.7 mm ) sized CMOS sensor . On the other hand, Panasonic S1R has a 47.0MP Full frame (36 x 24 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Venus Engine processor.

Panasonic S1R's sensor provides 23MP more than Leica TL2's sensor, which gives a significant advantage in real life. You can print your images larger or crop more freely. On the other hand, please keep in mind that Max sensor resolution is not the only determinant of resolving power. Factors such as the optical elements, low pass filter, pixel size and sensor technology also affects the final resolution of the captured image.

One other difference between these two cameras that is worth mentioning is that Panasonic S1R's sensor doesn't have an anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Panasonic S1R has a big advantage in this regard because it has a sensor based image stabilization which means that all the lenses mounted to this body will be stabilized. S1R's built-in Image stabilization system is effective for compensating vibration up to 6.0-stops according to CIPA standards.
On the other hand, Leica TL2 doesn't have this feature so you have to buy a lens with optical stabilization feature. Currently there are 10 lenses for Leica TL mount with Optical Image Stabilization features.
