Fujifilm X-T5 vs Canon T6i Comparison Overview

Here we are comparing two cameras with different body types: Fujifilm X-T5, which was introduced in November 2022 is a Advanced Mirrorless camera with a 40.2MP APS-C sensor whereas Canon T6i, which was introduced in February 2015 is a Entry-Level DSLR camera with a 24.0MP APS-C sensor. As you can see, T6i is 7 years older than X-T5. Let's see if this age difference between two cameras makes a big difference.

Despite some fundamental differences of these two body types, Mirrorless cameras are becoming serious alternatives to DSLR cameras thanks to their size/weight advantages and recent improvements in their focus speeds , which makes this comparison even more interesting.

Fujifilm X-T5 vs Canon T6i: Physical Specs and Body Features Comparison

Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Fujifilm X-T5 and Canon T6i side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Fujifilm X-T5 has external dimensions of 130 x 91 x 64 mm (5.12 x 3.58 x 2.52″) and weighs 557 g (1.23 lb / 19.65 oz) (including batteries). Canon T6i has external dimensions of 132 x 101 x 78 mm (5.2 x 3.98 x 3.07″) and weighs 555 g (1.22 lb / 19.58 oz) (including batteries).

Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Fujifilm X-T5 and the Canon T6i. Fujifilm X-T5 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 2mm narrower, 10mm shorter and 14mm thinner than Canon T6i.

Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Canon T6i is 2g lighter than the Fujifilm X-T5 but we don't think this will make a significant difference.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Fujifilm X-T5 and Canon T6i have the same APS-C sized sensor, their lenses for a similar focal length and aperture will be similar in size and weight.

Weather Sealing

With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the X-T5 has a big advantage over the T6i which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Fujifilm X-T5 and Canon T6i's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.

Fujifilm X-T5 features a Tilting-only screen which is mostly only good for shooting from waist or over-the-head levels. On the other hand, Canon T6i sports a Fully Articulated screen which is more flexible and useful, especially for taking selfies and video.

Fujifilm X-T5 vs Canon T6i: Sensor Comparison

Fujifilm X-T5 has a 40.2MP APS-C (23.5 x 15.6 mm ) sized BSI-CMOS sensor and features X-Processor 5 processor. On the other hand, Canon T6i has a 24.0MP APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features DIGIC 6 processor.

Fujifilm X-T5's sensor provides 16.2MP more than Canon T6i's sensor, which gives a significant advantage in real life. You can print your images larger or crop more freely. On the other hand, please keep in mind that Max sensor resolution is not the only determinant of resolving power. Factors such as the optical elements, low pass filter, pixel size and sensor technology also affects the final resolution of the captured image.

Another difference between these two cameras is that Fujifilm X-T5's sensor lacks anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the X-T5 and T6i sensor size comparison.

Fujifilm X-T5 vs Canon T6i Sensor Size Comparison
Sensor Size and Resolution Comparison image of Fujifilm X-T5 and Canon T6i Cameras

As seen above, Fujifilm X-T5 has a 1.1x Larger sensor area than Canon T6i. Larger sensors give photographer more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture.

Fujifilm X-T5 vs Canon T6i Comparison of Available Lenses
Which camera has more lenses?

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. When we look at the available lenses for these two cameras, we see that the Canon T6i has an advantage over the Fujifilm X-T5 There are 333 lenses for the Canon T6i's Canon EF/EF-S mount, but on the other hand, there are only 83 lenses for the Fujifilm X-T5's Fujifilm X lens mount.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Fujifilm X-T5 has a big advantage in this regard because it has a sensor based image stabilization (IS) which means that all the lenses mounted to this body will be stabilized. X-T5's built-in Image stabilization system is effective for compensating vibration up to 7.0-stops according to CIPA standards.
On the other hand, Canon T6i doesn't have this feature so you have to buy a lens with optical stabilization feature. Currently there are 113 lenses for Canon EF/EF-S mount with Optical Image Stabilization features.
