Fujifilm GFX 100S vs Leica SL2-S: Physical Specs and Body Features Comparison

Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Fujifilm GFX 100S and Leica SL2-S side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Fujifilm GFX 100S has external dimensions of 150 x 104 x 87 mm (5.91 x 4.09 x 3.43″) and weighs 900 g (1.98 lb / 31.75 oz) (including batteries). Leica SL2-S has external dimensions of 146 x 107 x 83 mm (5.75 x 4.21 x 3.27″) and weighs 931 g (2.05 lb / 32.84 oz) (including batteries).

Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Fujifilm GFX 100S and the Leica SL2-S. Leica SL2-S is 4mm narrower and 4mm thinner than Fujifilm GFX 100S but it is also 3mm taller.

Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Fujifilm GFX 100S is 31g lighter than the Leica SL2-S but we don't think this will make a significant difference.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since Fujifilm GFX 100S has a Medium format sensor and Leica SL2-S has a smaller Full frame sensor, Leica SL2-S's lenses for a similar focal length and aperture will generally be lighter and smaller than the Fujifilm GFX 100S lenses.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Fujifilm GFX 100S and Leica SL2-S's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.20 inches.

On the other hand, Fujifilm GFX 100S features a Tilting screen where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels whereas the Leica SL2-S has a fixed type screen which provides less flexibility in shooting positions compared to GFX 100S.

Fujifilm GFX 100S vs Leica SL2-S: Sensor Comparison

Fujifilm GFX 100S has a 102.0MP Medium format (44 x 33 mm ) sized BSI-CMOS sensor and features X-Processor 4 processor. On the other hand, Leica SL2-S has a 24.0MP Full frame (36 x 24 mm ) sized BSI-CMOS sensor and features Maestro III processor.

Fujifilm GFX 100S's sensor provides 78MP more than Leica SL2-S's sensor, which gives a significant advantage in real life. You can print your images larger or crop more freely. On the other hand, please keep in mind that Max sensor resolution is not the only determinant of resolving power. Factors such as the optical elements, low pass filter, pixel size and sensor technology also affects the final resolution of the captured image.

One other difference between these two cameras that is worth mentioning is that Leica SL2-S's sensor doesn't have an anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the GFX 100S and SL2-S sensor size comparison.

Sensor Size and Resolution Comparison image of Fujifilm GFX 100S and Leica SL2-S Cameras

As seen above, Fujifilm GFX 100S has a 1.7x Larger sensor area than Leica SL2-S. Larger sensors give photographer more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture.

Fujifilm GFX 100S vs Leica SL2-S Comparison of Available Lenses
Which camera has more lenses?

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. When we look at the available lenses for these two cameras, we see that the Leica SL2-S has an advantage over the Fujifilm GFX 100S There are 62 lenses for the Leica SL2-S's Leica L mount, but on the other hand, there are only 15 lenses for the Fujifilm GFX 100S's Fujifilm G lens mount.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Both Fujifilm GFX 100S and Leica SL2-S have Sensor-based Image stabilization which means that all the lenses will be stabilized in these bodies. SL2-S's built-in Image stabilization system is effective for compensating vibration up to 5.5-stops according to CIPA standards.
