Canon G12 has a
10.0MP 1/1.7-inch (7.44 x 5.58 mm ) sized CCD sensor and features Digic 4 processor. On the other hand, Pentax Q10 has a
12.0MP 1/2.3-inch (6.17 x 4.55 mm ) sized CMOS sensor .
Below you can see the G12 and Q10 sensor size comparison.
As seen above, Canon G12 has a 1.5x Larger sensor area than Pentax Q10. Larger sensors give photographer more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture.
DxOMark Sensor Scores
DxOMark is a benchmark that scientifically assesses image quality of camera sensors. It scores camera sensors for color depth (DXO Portrait), dynamic range (DXO Landscape) and low-light sensitivity (DXO Sports), and also gives them an overall score. Canon G12 and Pentax Q10 sensors have been tested by DxO and the results show that Q10 has a better overall score of 49, 2 points higher compared to G12's score of 47.
