Canon G1 X III vs Fujifilm X-T2 Comparison Overview

Here we are comparing two cameras with different body types: Canon G1 X III, which was introduced in October 2017 is a Large Sensor Compact camera with a 24.0MP APS-C sensor whereas Fujifilm X-T2, which was introduced in July 2016 is a Advanced Mirrorless camera with a 24.0MP APS-C sensor. There is 16 months difference between G1 X III and X-T2 so we don't expect to see a huge technology difference between these two cameras but it would still give an advantage to younger G1 X III, especially in sensor tech.

Comparing an interchangeble lens camera to a fixed lens camera is a bit tricky but we will do our best to make this a fair comparison.

Canon G1 X III vs Fujifilm X-T2: Physical Specs and Body features Comparison

Size and weight is a big decision factor when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, We are going to illustrate Canon G1 X III and Fujifilm X-T2 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Canon G1 X III has external dimensions of 115 x 78 x 51 mm (4.53 x 3.07 x 2.01″) and weighs 399 g (0.88 lb / 14.07 oz) (including batteries). Fujifilm X-T2 has external dimensions of 133 x 92 x 49 mm (5.24 x 3.62 x 1.9″) and weighs 507 g (including batteries).

Below you can see the front view size comparison of Canon G1 X III and Fujifilm X-T2. Canon G1 X III is 18mm narrower and 14mm shorter than Fujifilm X-T2 but it is also 2mm thicker. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Canon G1 X III has a built-in lens but Fujifilm X-T2 doesn't. Once you put a lens on X-T2, its thickness will increase significantly.

Weight is another important factor especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Canon G1 X III is significantly lighter (108g ) than the Fujifilm X-T2 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.

Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on X-T2, the total kit will weigh much higher.

Weather Sealing

Both G1 X III and X-T2 have weather sealings in their body, making them resistant to water and dust.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Fujifilm X-T2's 3.20" LCD screen is slightly larger than Canon G1 X III's 3 screen.

Canon G1 X III vs Fujifilm X-T2: Sensor Comparison

Both Canon G1 X III and Fujifilm X-T2 have APS-C sized 24.0 MP resolution sensors so sensor size and resolution is not a differentiator between these two cameras.

One other difference between these two cameras that is worth mentioning is that Fujifilm X-T2's sensor doesn't have an anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the G1 X III and X-T2 sensor size comparison.

Sensor Size and Resolution Comparison image of Canon G1 X III and Fujifilm X-T2 Cameras

As seen above, Fujifilm X-T2 has a 1.1x Larger sensor area than Canon G1 X III. Larger sensors give photographer more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture.
