Panasonic GM1 has a
16.0MP Four Thirds (17.3 x 13 mm ) sized CMOS sensor . On the other hand, Panasonic GX8 has a
20.0MP Four Thirds (17.3 x 13 mm ) sized CMOS sensor and features Venus Engine processor.
Below you can see the GM1 and GX8 sensor size comparison.
Panasonic GM1 and Panasonic GX8 have the same sensor sizes so they will provide same level of control over the depth of field when used with same focal length and aperture. On the other hand, since Panasonic GM1 has 27% larger pixel area compared to Panasonic GX8, it has potential to collect more light on pixel level hence have less noise in low light / High ISO images.
DxOMark Sensor Scores
DxOMark is a benchmark that scientifically assesses image quality of camera sensors. It scores camera sensors for color depth (DXO Portrait), dynamic range (DXO Landscape) and low-light sensitivity (DXO Sports), and also gives them an overall score. Panasonic GM1 and Panasonic GX8 sensors have been tested by DxO and the results show that GX8 has a better overall score of 75, 9 points higher compared to GM1's score of 66.
