Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic FZ300 and Canon 30D side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic FZ300 has external dimensions of 132 x 92 x 117 mm (5.2 x 3.62 x 4.61″) and weighs 691 g (including batteries). Canon 30D has external dimensions of 144 x 106 x 74 mm (5.67 x 4.17 x 2.91″) and weighs 784 g (1.73 lb / 27.65 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic FZ300 and the Canon 30D. Panasonic FZ300 is 12mm narrower and 14mm shorter than Canon 30D but it is also 43mm thicker. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Panasonic FZ300 has a built-in lens but Canon 30D doesn't. Once you put a lens on 30D, its thickness will increase significantly.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Panasonic FZ300 is 93g lighter than the Canon 30D but we don't think this will make a significant difference.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on 30D, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the FZ300 has a big advantage over the 30D which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Panasonic FZ300's 3.00" LCD screen is slightly larger than Canon 30D's 2.5" screen.
Moreover, Panasonic FZ300 sports a
Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. On the other hand, Canon 30D has a fixed type screen which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to FZ300.
